Gallaudet University's Center for Continuing and Online Education is proud to present this two-part webinar series on visual depiction strategies. Led by Alisha Bronk and Niesha Washington-Shepard, these webinars will cover language development in American Sign Language, depiction identification and categorization, and the use of ASL depictions as a way to “unstick English”. They will explain the rules underlying depictions use, model the production of depictions in ASL and the value of enhancing their skills with ASL depictions, and use spatial features to maximize your ability to learn and to develop your visualization of English concepts. By comparing spoken English and ASL, Alisha and Niesha will demonstrate how participants can go between concepts readily understood in English and their visual description in ASL. The webinars will focus on specialized medical depictions, storytelling, and STEM.
The cost is $10.00 for each webinar ($20.00 total). If taking the webinar for RID CEUs, you must register for both webinars at a total cost of $30.00 (The additional $10.00 goes to GIS to process your CEUs.) This series is offered for .30 RID CEUs. RID CEUs are only available to RID (Registry of Interpreters for the Deaf) members. Non-CEU registration fee is waived for gallaudet.edu account holders. CEU fees for gallaudet.edu account holders is $10.00.
